Bio
Original lineup 1989-1991: John, Jason, Jeff, Sean
Psychoboy, active in Maryland and Arizona from 1989-1993, was a rock band with diverse influences and a unique sound.
Formed by Jeff Henderson (v/g) and Jason Mitchell (g/v), the first lineup included bass phenom John Urbanski and drum god Sean Sheya. Ten songs were recorded by Summer of 1991, and the band had been featured in rock magazines such as Metal Edge. In Fall of 1991, the band moved to Phoenix, AZ with new members RJ Hoffmann (b/v) and Bo Roberts (d).
The band recorded an album's worth of new music in 1992, with Jack Roth joining on drums late in that year. At the end of 1992, Seth "Sneef" Bernstein (k/g/v) came into the band, giving their music more depth and versatility in songwriting and performing. Fun fact: Sneef would later do a couple of years in the Michael Schenker Group, recording a live album in Japan and a studio album with Mike Varney.
Through Psychoboy's time in Arizona, they made trips to California and Texas for gigs and regularly performed in the Phoenix area. They were featured on a CD compilation of Arizona artists covering Beatles songs, called "Desert Beatles" (Lady Madonna), and were included on a compilation called "Arizona Unplugged" with their song, "Are You Alone". Multiple record labels made offers to sign the group.
In Spring of 1993, original bassist John Urbanski rejoined the band, recording two final tracks before the group split up in June. During its time, the band recorded over two dozen tracks, which were mainly available as cassette demo tapes.
All the original songs have now been digitized, mastered by John Herrera, and are being released to streaming in 2024. Videos will be released for select songs.
We would like to thank James Holm for helping us retrieve some of the original master tapes. We also want to acknowledge our producer, Russ Graves, who believed in us and gave generously of his time and talent. He is greatly missed.
